The Trench Coat Man

Trench coat man

I’m not sure why I even attempted reasoning with my mother. I love her, but it’s frustrating when I have the confidence to admit something and then she either brushes it off or guilt trips me for bugging her. Then again, I couldn’t blame her because I can’t confirm if what I saw was even real. Maybe mom was right. Maybe a good night’s rest could be the answer to all my problems.

In the evening, as usual, I ate dinner, and it was pretty awkward considering our sort-of argument earlier. Also, part of me, as dumb as it sounds, was nervous at the potential of seeing it a second time. I prayed that I would look out the window, see nothing, and be filled with relief because it was a one-off encounter. I got some solid sleep last night, so I could no longer chalk it up to sleep deprivation.

Time for the moment of truth.

I flung open my curtains and turned my head in every direction, searching desperately to not find anything. Unfortunately, it was there.

But it was closer now.

Only right across the street.
